Tokio Motor Show: Style and technology confrontation regarding to the future
Tokio Motor Show today has opened their doors with concern. After the airbag scandal of Takata, which explode depending on the atmospheric conditions; the aluminium and steel sheets manufactured by Kobe Steel that don´t accomplish with the quality have call into question the loyalty of the Japanese product. Such is the case that Hiroto Saikawa, president of Jama and also executive president of Nissan, resigned from this charge two weeks ago, when he was going to be the host of the show.
He did this to palliate the scam effects of Kobe steel. By the moment, Nisan has stopped all the production of their factories in Japan. Akio Toyoda, Toyota´s pressident, has relieved him. But it also has been talked about cars during the previous days of the open day, electric cars overall. Two brands have stand out from the others. One of them is Toyota, as El Mundo explained. This brand has confirm that his zero emission car is seriously following the trend of the hydrogen engines.
The other one, Mazda, despite his recent deal with Toyota to find out real alternatives, keeps on betting for intern combustion engines. They are the last generation ones developed by their specialists: SkyActiv X, gasoline and diesel, and will land at the market next year.
To reduce emission, the main goal
Their specialists defend that, depending on the origin of the electric energy, their engines are cleaner than an electric car if they calculate the emissions “from the well to the wheel” (throughout the manufacturing process). They suggest that China is the country that pushes the most for the electric car, because they have coal excess to produce electric energy at their thermal power plants. But they also point out that in this case, the total emissions of an electric car are two times higher than a diesel engine. In coherence with this technical approach, Mazda has also bet for style called Kodo Design, inspired in Japaneese art and craftwork.
Two years ago they showed the sports car Vision RX.
This year, the development of this style keeps on the way with the Vision Coupé, a four-door with a back gate very fluid and aerodynamic line, on it, satands out the treatment of the sheet to make ripples. It´s a different perspective to see the traditional automobile from a sportive way. It contrasts for example with the Toyota Fine comfort Ride with hydrogen battery which has recently been launched.
The car is just a style exercise and will guide the esthetic canon of the future Mazda cars.
